Ps3 Super Slim Download Game From Disc
Hey guys, just wanted to throw a couple of questions out to PS3 owners in the hope of getting some feedback. I'm currently thinking about dropping some of my Christmas cash on a PS3 - I've been in the market for one for a while, and have finally decided that there are enough exclusives I'm interested in and the price is low enough for me to bite the bullet. I was initially looking at the 12GB Super Slim model, but I'm a bit concerned that the tiny hard-drive might not be big enough to cope with anything more than what might be considered casual use. So, here are my questions:
Alright so pretty much im thinking of getting a new ps3 this christmas because my current ps3 has been giving me problems. Windows 8 starter edition iso download. So my question is i'm wondering if i can just replace the hard drive from the super slim with the hard drive i have on my current slim to keep all my saved data and downloaded games without having to back up all the data and re download all my games and dlc?
- Is 12GB going to be enough storage for somebody in my position? I play a fair amount of video games, although I don't do much downloading from online stores and I wouldn't be using my console to store anything like music or movies. To offer up a comparison, I've done most of my gaming these last few years on an Xbox 360 with a 20GB hard drive without any real problems. I'm quite happy to play games straight from the disc without installing to the hard drive, and I'm willing to delete surplus content that isn't in use to make way for new content that I want to play.
- If 12GB isn't sufficient, then do I have no option but to go for broke and pick up the 500GB model? Or does the PS3 support things like external hard drives or USB flash drives? If so, could I feasibly use something like that to expand the PS3's storage capacity to suit my needs?

- Jul 24, 2017 my PS3 Super Slim is 5 years old and it always worked well until last week. Now whenever I wake up in the morning and try to play a game, it tries and tries to read the disc (making loud noises), but after spinning and stopping the disc 5 times the PS3 just gives up lol.

And now I find out that I have the only version that has no installation option.
Can someone from Blizzard shed some light on the reason for this discrimination, and whether or not the option will be made available via patch?
UPDATE 1:
I'm really loving this version of the game so far and I have been playing for more then 10 hours now. As other users have said, the loading times are really short. However during my gameplay I have noticed some issues(?!) that I believe are absent in the digital version:
1) The disc is read every time a character is about to say a line, and in a Super Slim PS3 is very hard not to notice it and be distrated (not sure of the noise problem with older PS3 models). Moreover, I also noticed that sometimes there is a micro-stutter just when the disc is read.
2) I bought a PS3 Super Slim together with D3. I'm not sure whether it was an isolated event, but in 2 occasions I experienced inconsistent reading time. The game was about to load the next section and the console kind of stopped to read for around 10-15 sec., afterward the disc started to spin again and the game went on.
I don't think you could ever install a game to a PS3 with the disc. Although I don't know 100%, I'm quite certain. The disc isn't an installer like computer game discs, the Playstation needs to read the disc information in order to play the game. But I remember even on Xbox, you can't actually install the game either. You can kind of install it to make loading screen times faster and such, but you still need the disc in the console in order to play. Sorry, that's just how it is, unfortunately =(
Are you serious? Of course I'm asking for an installation option inline with other PS3 games. I'm NOT talking about the installation as we know it on PC.
On the X360 you can install any game but you still need the disc to boot.
On the PS3 due to the amount of data contained in a BD, the installation is usually only partial. Differently than on the 360, the games either prompt you with a message that inform you of the possibility or they have an option in the game menu.
What I'm asking is to have the option to partially install the game on my 500GB hard drive. And AGAIN, I KNOW THE DISC WILL STILL BE REQUIRED.
Its only diablo game after all, probably can load the whole level into ram memory without the need to install
I have a Game from PSN Store ( thank god only one ) called 'Dungeon Hunter: Alliance' and even tough its installed on my HDD loading times are HUGE. I can run up to the gasstation buy a pack of smokes and some drinks and the loading is still in progress by the time i get back.
Not every game has this option to instal Game Data on the HDD. And its realy not that big of a deal if it does. People say 'if its on HDD it loads faster' i say BS

The term 'faster' is relative, and the only way to say whether a game load faster once installed is to compare it to the same game on a BD. The fact that the game you installed is slow at loading proves nothing but the fact that it isn't very well optimized in that regard.
I would be curious to see a comparison between a digital and disc copy of D3.
It is overwritten when other games, such as FFXIII, utilise this area on the hard disk.
Having played the PS3 version for a good few hours last night, most if not all of the loading times are near instant. Really the only advantage would be not having to hear the disc spin as much beyond that there is no real advantage.
It's true that loading times are fairly short, however it is horrible to hear the mechanical noise of the disc driver every time one of the characters on the screen is about to say a line.
If ppl know that, why dont buy it digital!!!!
